PRODUCT
Medical Device

DESCRIPTION
The customer was bringing a new medical device to market. Initial volumes were high enough to require an automated assembly and packaging solution. The product involves a main section and tip connected by a thin tube enclosing a delicate wire. The product characteristics made a custom loading system necessary. The loading system needed to be able to receive the assembled parts from the assembly machine as well. This medical device is regulated under FDA UDI guidelines and required a track and trace system for guaranteeing the product is correctly loaded and each pouch is accurately printed with vital data. QuickPouch developed a custom loading system that accepts the assembled part from the assembly system via robot. The loading system consisted of a vertically oriented conveyor with integrated fixtures to accept both the main section of the part and the tip while preventing the connecting hose and internal wire from kinking. Once the part reaches the loading station it is transferred to the insertion mechanism which carefully lowers the part into the pouch, which has been printed in-line with a Videojet DataFlex+ Thermal Transfer Printer. Once the pouch is sealed it advances to an inspection station where a MicroScan camera inspects the pouch data. The pouch is then either rejected and rerouted to a reject bin or moved to a series of output conveyors, the last of which is programmed to shift product to alternating bins when a pre-set quantity is reached.

Pharmaceutical Cream

DESCRIPTION
Customer required precise filling of a pharmaceutical liquid into a small pouch with production quantities of nearly 10 million pouches per year. The pouch required printing of vital data and front to back print registration. The small pouch size allowed QuickPouch to develop a 4 lane system of the larger QuickPouch Vertical Plus, giving a maximum production speed of 80 pouches per minute. Four high precision piston pumps were integrated on a diving mechanism which lowered the pump tips into the pouch for the filling process. The system was set up with a single roll of material which is imprinted using a Videojet Dataflex Thermal Transfer printer, before being split and rejoined inside the machine to form 4 pouches at a time.

PRODUCT
Wound Care Dressing

DESCRIPTION
Customer required pouching of a wound care dressing with a required production volume of approximately 40 pouches per minute. To achieve this speed QuickPouch used a Vertical Plus to allow for two lanes, doubling the production speed. QuickPouch also developed a custom dual magazine style automatic loader which used vacuum to hold the products against a loading plate which then lowered the product into the pouch, helping to guarantee the product was correctly loaded and would not interfere with the final sealing of the pouch. The Tyvek® and Poly pouch included a peelable chevron seal. To achieve variable printing on both pouches QuickPouch utilized two Videojet Dataflex+ Thermal Transfer Printers, allowing for maximum coverage.
